On October 25, 1983, elements of the 1st and 2nd Ranger Battalions conducted a combat parachute assault onto Point Salines airstrip — one of the most tactically complex airborne operations since World War II. Simultaneously, Marine forces landed at Pearls Airport in the north. Within days, the operation was complete. 19 Americans gave their lives. The Ranger assault on Grenada became a defining moment in the post-Vietnam rebuilding of U.S. military confidence and capability.
