The 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, also known as the "Six Triple Eight," was a predominantly Black, multi-ethnic unit of the Women's Army Corps (WAC) during World War II. This unit was the first and only all-female, Black WAC unit deployed overseas, serving in the European Theater of Operations. Their mission was to clear a massive backlog of mail, estimated at 17 million pieces, to boost morale among American service members.
